HOW THE COMMUNICATION CHANNELS HAVE MADE THE BRAZILIAN PERIPHERY FIGHT AGAINST ITSELF

The media is the main way people connect with the world around them, whether through neighborhood news or global updates. Because of this, communication channels carry enormous power and responsibility, as they influence how people see the world and shape their opinions.

However, through fake news or slightly distorted reports, the media can manipulate people to like the politician or public figure they want, regardless of the citizen’s own values. In the end, they can easily polarize opinions, setting people against each other — all this without necessarily highlighting the policies or improvements made by the politicians in question.

Amid all this, we have music — more specifically, peripheral music.

Rap, Funk, and even Samba play the same role and bear the same responsibility as newspapers; they are vehicles that contribute to shaping opinions. However, the moment one of these vehicles distorts part of reality (like news outlets), it generates conflict with what a person believes, even causing them to disagree with the music itself, even if it reflects the socioeconomic environment in which they live.

Is a person from the periphery who enjoys old-school rap but supports figures like Bolsonaro essentially a bad person for backing this politician? From my point of view, no. At some point, something conveyed by the “media” aligned with a value held by this individual, leading them to firmly support that candidate, even if their own reality is far removed from what the politician actually preaches.

With all this, the periphery only stands to lose — literally. We become blind to our own choices, and if we are not careful, we will end up agreeing with politicians who are taking advantage of us.

In the end, form your own opinion, truly study who you believe represents you, and do NOT idolize any politician or musician to an extreme degree. When we stop reflecting and forming grounded opinions, we become vulnerable. The periphery must study, know how to behave, and know how to organize when necessary. Any rigid, unexamined thinking that avoids debate will not lead us to a prosperous future.
